How to take care of your Sterling Silver and other metals
Over time, air pollutants, dust, perfumes, and other natural elements can make jewelry appear dirty. Here are some tips to keep your pieces clean and shiny.
At Castellamare we use the highest quality materials because we want to become part of your adventures. This is why we have prepared this guide to help you keep your products in their ideal condition.
Metals
We use a wide variety of metals in our jewelry; such as 14 karat gold, .925 sterling silver, gold powder, stainless steel, and others. We can't avoid the fact that over time it may experience changes due to oxidation. This is due to many factors including: improper cleaning, storage, humidity, when rubbing or scraping against hard surfaces, PH of the skin, sweating, etc.
Cleaning
To clean your solid 14 karat gold and .925 silver pieces, dilute 1 tablespoon of liquid dish soap in a small bowl container with 200 ml of warm water. Gently wipe your jewelry pieces using a clean cotton cloth. Afterward, wash out your piece with fresh water and dry it with a soft cloth. Make sure to completely dry your pieces before using them again.
Clean your jewelry often with a soft cloth, remove oils, and air pollutants.
Use jewelry polishing cloths for best results on metals. Using thickly woven fabrics or paper towels can cause scratches.
Use warm water and soap to clean the jewelry. Using warm water is the best option for cleaning your jewelry as hot water can react with cleaning products and cause discoloration. Do not use detergents, bleaches, baking soda, or ammonia-based cleaners.
We suggest giving them proper care, avoiding the direct use of creams, soaps, perfumes or any other abrasive substance that could damage the material.
For all bracelets (except leather), in case of getting wet in salt water, or pools with chlorine, we recommend you to wash them after with fresh water.
BRACELETS MADE OUT OF LEATHER MATERIAL SHOULD NOT GET WET UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES.
Storage
We recommend you to keep your products in the original packaging. Keep your pieces separated so that they are not damaged between them.
What about Sterling Silver?
We've all heard about sterling silver at some point, in this blog we advise you to understand these terms before making your purchase.
What is sterling silver?
Many of our clients have asked us this question, so we decided to answer based on our experience. Certainly one of the best guarantees you can obtain is buying your jewelry from a trusted store. At Castellamare we offer quality materials, handmade by Mexican artisans. When a jewel is made of .925 silver it usually bears a mark or seal with that number. In the case of Castellamare's silver pieces you can find the stamp on all our pieces with .925 silver, unless some of them which are very small. Why is it called that way?
First, we would like to explain what pure silver is. It has a purity of 100% silver, it is highly malleable, so it can't be used to make jewelry. Especially since it would be really week, and it could easily deform.
To avoid this, it's combined with other metals, such as copper. This combination is made to reduce that excess of malleability, but maintaining a high degree of silver. You can find silver with different degrees of purity 950, 925, 900 and 800 (light silver), .925 silver is made up of 92.5% silver, and the rest of another metal used such as copper. The number 925 is used since it was established that a piece of 925 sterling silver means that, if we divided that piece into 1000 parts, 925 would be pure silver and the rest, the other metal.
At Castellamare we have .925 sterling silver in several of our designs, mainly because we seek to provide our clients with quality jewelry.

Things you need to know about 14K Gold
Express your individuality and immerse yourself in this exclusive world of our 14K Gold Collection. It has been specially designed for those who seek distinction and perfection in all aspects of their life.
Durability and quality of our 14K Gold pieces
14K Gold, which we offer at Castellamare, has a great resistance to daily use. This is why it's so popular in engagement and marriage rings. As a beautiful and durable metal, 14K Gold is also reasonably priced. The metal is beautiful but also durable for everyday wear.
Our 14K Gold Collection is focused on our travelers and adventurers, ideal for daily use for people with a more active lifestyle, who perform physical activities and manual work.
What care do we recommend giving your 14K Gold pieces?
One of the great advantages of gold is that it does not rust. It's resistant to time and external agents, this advantage and quality aspect defines its price. So by being properly treated it can retain its amazing shiny look for a long time.
To clean them you can go to a jeweler or you can do it yourself at home. To do it at home, we recommend leaving your pieces in warm water with hand or washing dishes soap (so that accumulated dirt falls off). Then, with the help of a soft brush (it can be a tooth or eyebrow brush), begin to brush the jewelry. Keep your jewel inside the hot water. Be careful not to scratch the jewel. When finished, dry the pieces carefully.
When you're not wearing them, store your gold jewelry in soft cloth bags or the original box to help prevent scratches.
